As Each Hour Moves

Under the weight of the day

It can feel either way:

An iceberg above us

Offering no chance to scramble up

When the truth won’t love us

Without an unprecedented melt

On the other hand we rest well

under the ideal weight of a warm quilt

Perfect for keeping us

Safe and calm

Like sun shining through in the morning

**

By the light of the day

It happens just this way

The sun above us

Offering a chance to climb to the top

When the new day loves us

With a bright and blinding glory

But from some angles we see clearly

In the surreal light of a true story

Perfect for keeping us

Curious and keen

Like events planned for this afternoon

**

Our world is on fire

But I’m frozen in ice

All time

burns fiercely in some ways

As we melt in plain sight

*

Flowing into rolling oceans

And forever-moving skies

These are the clear ways we exist

And climb to new heights

*

You mean more to me

Than the sun and the moon

The truth comes to light

As each hour moves

**

We make the most of the day

There’s no other way

The vast sky above us

Offering a chance to rise all the way up

Sometimes the world loves us

Like a gusty and engaging breeze

Asking us to fly and saying please

We learn from this love most

We won’t burn or freeze

Perfectly keeping us

Fresh and cool

Like moon shining through in the evening

**

Our world catches fire

But I’m frozen in ice

All time

burns fiercely in some ways

As we melt in plain sight

*

Flowing rivers of devotion

And forever-supporting skies

These are clear ways we can exist

And climb to new heights

*

You mean more to me

Than the sun and the moon

The truth comes to light

As each hour moves
