It Wouldn’t Be Too Shocking

When we are at a party

And I can hear you talking

I might join in

If it wouldn’t be too shocking

*

Hey, it’s just me

Why can’t we just be free?

You know I’m trying to help

With some honesty

*

Some would claim that

I just rant and rave

They don’t follow my words

They just won’t catch the wave

**

When we are at the market

And I see you shopping

I might say, “Hi,”

If it wouldn’t be too shocking

*

Hey, it’s just me

Why can’t we just be free?

I’m just another person

That’s all that I can be

*

Some would claim that

Kindness is not safe

Even offering kind words

Is not fine in every place

**

People are the same

There is no one to blame

We each play our own game

It’s nice when we all win

*

People have no shame

We can not always blame

The rules of the game

It’s nice when we all win

Fair and square

*

It’s shocking when we beat the odds

When we are free to be

Who we are

We rock hard to make a difference

Use our words to take us far

**

When we are in each other’s hearts

And I can feel them locking

I might throw away the key

If it wouldn’t be too shocking

*

It’s plain to see

Somehow we still are free

When we work harder to win

With our integrity

*

Some would claim that

We can not keep pace

They will understand my words

If they can read my face

**

People are the same

There is no one to blame

We each play our own game

It’s nice when we all win

*

People fight for one name

We can not always blame

The rules of the game

It’s nice when we all win

Care and stay aware
