Flooding onto the roads
Throngs of vehicles
Swarm the streets
Charging forward
Like schools of fish
Certain of their movement
Darting back and forth
Weaving in mass traffic
Individuals of the sea
Aware of their small circles
Yet never knowing for sure what is downstream

Often certain of intended destinations
Or at least the next gear
While treasures await
We are careful of how we steer

Barriers and wild currents
Below
Beneath
Loose canons or vile predators
With chrome and teeth
Intimidating
Or in the current, concealed
Then taking too many lanes
And crisscrossing
self conscious or not
Speeding, unseeing
being erratic in life
Chomping out big dents

There is risk involved
*
Never knowing
What other drivers will do
Sure sometimes it is
smooth sailing and certainly safe
With strong and successful
social smarts shared by many

We still should
remain absolutely convinced
that the journey has challenges
Obstacles
Competitors
Road conditions
And rewards arriving

We have to get along
Well enough for our shared survival
We can jockey for position
Or we go with the flow
We go fast off the light
Or we take it slow
Causing ripples either way
Too fast
Or just crawling

Dodge
Pot holes
And flat tires
Avoid breaking down and stalling
Won’t get stuck at the bottom
Common sense and skill
Keep us rolling

Beneath the waves
Keeping the pulse
In the middle of the chaos
we can find calm

We do it the best way
Your way or my way
Into intersections or
On the highway

At the curb
Or in the driveway
In a parking lot
or in our home
Peace can thrive in our motion

The top of the engine is hot
Below we keep so cool
Like swimming
In deep water

Biting on a line
For a better time
Do what we can
It is all part of the plan
Take us home for dinner
Or catch and release
On the open seas

It is open season
For every
Reason

We plan our route
Without doubt
Get past fast
Like steelhead trout

We do up our seatbelt
Safety can be felt
Please no treason
How about etiquette
And manners?
Like a license
To drive
And to angle and dive

Minnows follow traffic patterns
Sharks fight to stay alive
We all do try
To live the best life
Get where we are going
Down the avenue
On the fast stream
That is having you
Or that still seems
Quick as minutes
Adding up to hours
We cruise into
Our space
Any place
We all have more powers
Submerged or on the surface
Driving for what we want or need
