What is this world coming to?
And I’m an optimist
So many people still prefer
to rule with an iron fist
They throw logic out the window
And cross kindness off the list
Because they won’t risk
Caring
Since there is something
they might miss
*
Something for themselves
It’s understandable
Unless there’s
Surplus on their shelves
And there is plenty more
where that came from
Yet they
keep others
locked up so tight
In thoughtless economic cells
*
Not because
the keepers of the classes
Can’t afford to help
But because they might be blind
Or just unfair and
lazier than hell
**
What is this world coming to?
And I’m a sinner as well
So many people perpetuate greed
it grows hard to tell
Don’t throw honesty out the window
Instead climb out of our shell
Maybe you can’t sell
compassion
But they might listen if we yell
*
Something for ourselves
It’s understandable
Because
nothing else seems to help
And we have to convey
to all of them
That we can create
way more light
thoughtfully answering
wishing wells
*
If we try
We can save more of the masses
Just because it would be kind
To keep us all
Out of
A living hell
