The Only Window

Through my window

I see clouds in the sky

A storm meets my eye

Like a rock concert

Rain connects with the glass

Like fans with the stars

Never getting in but making

A very enthusiastic effort

Leaving a temporary

Impression

A winding trail

Fuel like gas in cars

For a moment

Victory heals scars

Like delicious jam in jars!

To take us all far

**

Smashing through the sky

Shattering the lie

I can’t mistake you for

The pain I’ve known before

There is no eternal war

We are clear to be

Who we want to be

And we both know

that we’ve got more in store

Peace and love and equity

Should be the vibe

That will forever be

Strengthening our core

And opening our door

**

We want to escape

But we get down deeper

Because there’s

No other place to go

Let’s look more closely at what we see

And salvage every part of it

Everything we should know

Let’s find out how much

Of what we see

is really just for show

**

Thousands of friends

are drumming at the pane

Gentle splashing hits

over and over again

There’s no sense on a rainy day

When we hear them play

To opening up the window

We are better to wait

Till warmth hits the glass

Then let in

The waiting sun’s

Calm bright glow

that also helps us roll

**

Here we are on this rock

A stone’s throw away from the sun

When it shines through

Cheering me up

It may also reflect back

As if we are the only ones

The day bounces off me

Then crashes through the door

bringing new truth unannounced

We’ve learned to rock on

Before our time is all gone

Because now is

The only window that counts
